Scripture – Acts 11:13
When they heard these things they fell silent. And they glorified God, saying, “Then to the Gentiles also God has granted repentance that leads to life.”
Their preconception hindered them from recognizing what God was going to do, and indeed did do. They then yielded to the fact that God had done a work and focused on the main thing, the reality instead of just the sign of the reality. God is after repentance that leads to life.
Our preconceptions can too easily get in the way of our recognizing what God wants to do, what He is doing, or has done. God is omnipotent, but He can also seemingly be stopped by our preconceptions, because they don’t leave room for Him to work. It’s not that He can’t, but He won’t or doesn’t work when we don’t leave Him room. When He does work, we seem surprised, and we can get hung up on a secondary things instead of the reality of what He wants; repentance and newness of life.
Lord, show me what preconceptions are holding you back in my life and in our church. I don’t want anything to hinder what you have for me. Help me to see what you have done, are doing, and want to do so I can get with the program.
