Scripture – I will give to the Lord the thanks due to his righteousness, and I will sing praise to the name of the Lord, the Most High. Psalm 7:17
David is in a mood that desires to see God’s justice, His righteousness expressed, even in his own life. He wants the evil punished and the righteous justified even if that’s him. He knows the evil that is in the heart of men because he knows it’s in Him. The only one who is true worthy of praise is God.
It can be very easy to get into a “justice” mood, but that can so easily lead to bitterness and anger dominating our lives. Justice is a good thing for us and others. But we can’t lose sight that God is the justice giver, that He is the righteous one, and He is to be praised regardless of what is going on.
I want to praise you even when I don’t want to, and with sincerity. With humility. You are the judge, not me. You are the judge of me. I want to seek for mercy not only for myself, but also those who would incur your wrath. Give me that kind of heart, Lord.
