Psalm 4:6 There are many who say, “Who will show us any good?” LORD, lift up the light of Your countenance upon us.

David is both crying out to The Lord and shouting out His goodness. The critics ask, “Where is someone who will share or reveal anything that is inherently good?” They aren’t asking to see something good like a good show or a good painting or a good Vine video. They want to know where to find goodness. David’s answer is the high priestly prayer from Numbers 6:24-26.

24 “The LORD bless you and keep you; 25 The LORD make His face shine upon you, And be gracious to you; 26 The LORD lift up His countenance upon you, And give you peace.”

The answer is in the face, the presence of The Lord.

When we get bummed out, when we get discouraged, when we get depressed, we look for things to bring us out of it. We look to media, sports, substances, food, sex, etc. While some of those may have uplifting or positive things, they aren’t good. The source of goodness is God. It’s being is His presence. It’s soaking up His love like laying on a sunny beach or sitting in a hot tub on a cold night. I need to take the time regularly, but particularly when I’m in a depression hole, to stop and soak up God’s goodness rays.

Lord, you know I’d rather be taking care of others than taking care of myself. But I can’t effective take care of others unless I’m in a good place spiritually, emotionally, physically. Bless me and keep me. Make Your face shine upon me and be gracious to me. Lift up your countenance upon me and give me peace. I want to soak in that instead of other stuff and fluff. Amen.
