Devos – Luke 10:16 Not A Messenger, A Representative

Scripture
Luke 10:16   “The one who listens to you listens to me, and the one who rejects you rejects me, and the one who rejects me rejects the one who sent me.”

Observation
To listen means to hear and to respond in a way that accepts. To reject is to hear and to reject what is shared. Jesus is saying that we are His representatives, His representations, just as He is that of His Father. We are not simply messengers just as Jesus was not simply a messenger. Paul uses the word “ambassador” in 2 Corinthians 5. When you represent someone you are there on their behalf. You are invested in it.

Application
To be a Christian, to be a believer in and follower of Jesus, is to be one who is sent out by Him on His behalf. It is to represent Him in every aspect of our lives. One part of that life is the delivering of Jesus message of salvation as well as miracles when called upon to do so. We don’t represent ourselves or operate out of our own power, we are supposed to operate out of His. We need to understand and walk in that distinction in order to be effective representations of Jesus. This is as important in our private lives as in our public lives.

Prayer
Jesus I want to be a representation and a representative of You. Of the two I think I’m a worse representation. I don’t even operate in my own power for fear of not operating in Yours which means I’m even more powerless. That’s dumb. Show me how to operate in Your power so as to be an effective representative of you. More than a messenger. Amen.
